Flamex NF 3.79L (Natural Fibre)

Flamex NF 3.79L (Natural Fibre)

Roscoflamex NF is a concentrated flame retardant that effectively treats natural-fiber textiles, paper products, and other cellulosic materials.

Roscoflamex has been approved by the New York State Board of Standards and Appeals and has been one of the most widely used flame retardants in the entertainment industry for more than 15 years.

COVERAGE:

On average, 300 sq. ft. per gallon of the diluted solution. Coverage is determined by the ease of absorption into the fiber of the fabric.

Dilution:

Roscoflamex NF is a concentrated solution that is intended to be diluted with water. To determine the correct dilution for your material, prepare three or four trial solutions between 2:1 and 3:1, water:flamex, using the material you intend to treat. Treat your sample using the same method of application that you will use on the full size material and allow to dry thoroughly. Then test the samples using the methods described on page two, or whatever method is applicable for your local fire regulations.

Flamex NF compares to original Roscoflamex C26. Do not intermix old and new Flamex products. Use Flamex NF to effectively treat:

cotton

muslin

scrims

cotton netting

natural velours

wools

linens

natural felts

decorative, garment or upholstery fabrics made from natural fibers

Flamex SF 3.79L (Synthetic Fibre)

Flamex SF 3.79L (Synthetic Fibre)

Roscoflamex SF effectively flameproofs many synthetic fabrics, such as polyesters, nylons, acrylics and rayons, as well as many cotton/synthetic blends.

This ready-to-use liquid is easily applied by immersion, spraying or brushing. Fabrics retain a good soft hand without undue stiffness.

COVERAGE:

On average, 300 sq. ft. per gallon of undiluted SF. Coverage is determined by the ease of absorption into the fiber of the fabric.

DILUTION:

Roscoflamex SF may be used straight out of the bottle. Dilute with water if necessary. This allows the product to be effective on the widest range of materials. Because of the strength of this solution, certain fabrics will develop a white powdery residue after the Roscoflamex SF has dried. If this occurs on your test sample, dilute the Roscoflamex SF 10% with water and retest. Continue this process until your sample dries with no residue.

Flamex SF compares to original S33. Do not intermix old and new Flamex products. Use to treat:

Nylons

Polyesters

Acrylics

Poly-cotton blends

Synthetic velours or felts

Flamex DF 3.79L (Delicate Fibre)

Flamex DF 3.79L (Delicate Fibre)

Many fabrics and materials used in scenery and costumes are delicate and have a gentle hand and soft drape. Treating these fabrics presents a challenge to develop an adequate flame retardance without causing the materials to stiffen or otherwise alter their drape. Flamex DF is a gentle solution that maintains the soft qualities of the fabric while still providing a safe and secure flame treatment. Flamex DF works with most natural or synthetic fiber fabrics.

Using Flamex DF

Rosco Flamex DF has been premixed and does not require any further dilution. The method of application and the amount of Flamex required for sufficient treatment varies with the fabrics in use. In order to maintain the soft drape of the fabric, spray application in multiple light passes is recommended.

Coverage

One gallon of Flamex DF will treat approximately 600 square feet (55.8 square meters) of fabric.

Applying Flamex

Dipping: This is the most efficient method of impregnation. Immerse completely for ten minutes, and hang to dry.

Brushing: Using a wide lay-in brush, brush the Flamex solution into the fibers of the material being treated. Brush in the solution using a criss-crossing pattern to insure adequate absorption.

Spraying: In a spray application, it is very important that an adequate amount of the Flamex be absorbed. In calculating the amount of solution needed, remember that a substantial portion of the spray will not fall on the fabric. Use a Hudson-type sprayer with a medium nozzle setting. For best results, hang the material to be treated and spray in a back and forth pattern starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top of the fabric sample.

Over saturating the fabric may cause it to stiffen or otherwise alter its hand. ALWAYS treat a test sample to determine how the fabric will react and to test for effective flame retardance.

Certification and Testing

Flamex DF has been approved for use by the California and New York City Fire Marshall and has been tested according to NFPA 701.

Storage

Store Flamex products in non-metallic containers. When metal sprayers are used, they should be thoroughly cleaned immediately after use, including nozzles and accessories. Avoid use of metal buckets or paint containers when possible.

Disclaimer

Read carefully the instructions supplied with any Flamex product. Rosco offers these products in good faith, but without guarantee of any type, since materials treated and methods of application are beyond the control of the manufacturer. You should determine suitability of the Flamex product for the intended use and always test before using.

Flamex WD 3.79L (Wood)

Flamex WD 3.79L (Wood)

Roscoflamex WD effectively flameproofs untreated wood, plywood, cellulose board, acoustical board, and corrugated paper. This ready-to-use clear liquid is easily applied by immersion, spraying, or brushing to penetrate the surface of the material without changing its properties. In addition to flameproofing, Roscoflamex WD also seals and protects the wood that has been treated. Roscoflamex WD will not change the color of the wood, however, flameproofing may raise the grain slightly. This can be corrected by sanding very lightly

COVERAGE:

Wood, plywood: 110 sq. ft./gal. in three spray coats. Corrugated paper: 300 sq. ft./gal. Acoustical tile and cellulosic board: 60 sq. ft./gal. in three spray coats.

Flamex PC 3.79L (Paper & Cardboard)

Flamex PC 3.79L (Paper & Cardboard)

Flamex PC was formulated specifically to treat the many paper products commonly used in props and scenery construction. Most paper products without a wax coating or other water resistant properties can be effectively treated.

Using Flamex PC

Rosco Flamex PC has been premixed and does not require any further dilution. The method of application and the amount of Flamex required for sufficient treatment varies with the materials in use. Some discoloration and wrinkling of paper products may occur as the paper materials dry. Multiple light treatments will minimize this.

Coverage

One gallon of Flamex PC will treat approximately 400 square feet (37 square meters) of fabric.

Flamex PA 0.24L (8 oz US) (Paint Additive)

Flamex PA 0.24L (8 oz US) (Paint Additive)

Flamex PA is a clear, un-pigmented additive for creating a flame retardant paint layer. Add one full jar of Flamex PA to a US gallon (3.79L) of water based paint to make your paint coating flame retardant. Flamex PA is compatible in most latex or vinyl acrylic paints but always test with your specific paint choice. Do not use Flamex PA with metallic paints as the metal pigments may react and tarnish or corrode. Flamex PA does NOT alter the flammability of the substrate being painted but only adds a retardant treatment that slows the spread of fire along the surface.

Using Flamex PA

Rosco Flamex PA has been pre-measured and should be added to a single US Gallon (3.79L) of paint. Once combined, the paint/Flamex mixture can be diluted as desired but the dry paint film must be no less than 4 mil in thickness. The effectiveness of a fire retardant barrier is dependent on both the fire retardant additive and the thickness of the coating. Flamex PA is not intended to be used in place of other Flamex products. Where possible, always treat the substrate material using the appropriate Flamex product.

Note: When using Flamex PA in Rosco Supersaturated paint add one 8 oz. jar to one quart of undiluted Supersaturated and then dilute this mixture at least 1:1 with water. Mix thoroughly before using.

Coverage

8 oz. of Flamex PA mixed into one gallon of paint will treat approximately 300 square feet (28 square meters) of material as per paint manufacturer's guidelines.

Applying Flamex

Apply treated paint by brush, roller or sprayer as per the paint manufacturer's instructions. Regardless of the method of application, it is vital that a complete paint film is formed and that the dry film thickness of the finished coating is not less than 4 mil. Paint films that are incomplete, or are too thin, will not provide a barrier against the spread of fire.

Certification and Testing

Flamex PA has been approved for use by the California and New York City Fire Marshall and has been tested according to ASTM E84 Class A.

Storage

Store Flamex products in non-metallic containers. When metal sprayers are used, they should be thoroughly cleaned immediately after use, including nozzles and accessories. Avoid use of metal buckets or paint containers when possible.
