Stage lighting equipment categories

Choosing equipment for a show and identifying a lantern already in your venue are different jobs. Start with the fixture family, then check the exact model, lamp and accessories. This guide covers the current hire categories alongside traditional theatre-lighting equipment.

Moving lights and LED units for hire

The 2026 hire list includes moving-light profiles, spots, washes and beams, alongside LED fixtures for stage and event lighting. Most of the lighting stock is LED, with a range led by Chauvet and Martin alongside ETC tungsten stock. Send the team your venue, dates and intended use so they can confirm suitable equipment and availability.

  • Moving-light profiles, spots, washes and beams
  • LED PAR, cyc, Fresnel and profile units
  • LED battens, strobes and blinders
  • Vintage-style tungsten and LED fixtures

Lighting control and tungsten lanterns

A lighting requirement includes control as well as the fixtures themselves. The hire range includes ChamSys and Zero 88 consoles, together with ETC, Strand and Selecon tungsten lanterns. Include your existing desk and equipment in the enquiry if hired items will be used alongside a venue system.

  • ChamSys QuickQ and MagicQ
  • Zero 88 Jester and Juggler
  • ETC Source Four profiles
  • Strand and Selecon Fresnels

Follow spots and atmospheric effects

The current hire list includes Robert Juliat Buxie and LDR Astro follow spots, plus smoke, haze and low-fog equipment. When identifying an older follow spot, record the manufacturer and full model: Strand Solo, CCT Sil, Pani Short Throw and Long Throw, and Robert Juliat Korrigan and Aramis are distinct models, not interchangeable specifications. These traditional examples are not a statement of current stock.

  • Current follow spots: Robert Juliat Buxie and LDR Astro
  • Current effects include Chauvet Cloud 9 and Hurricane 1600
  • Smoke Factory Tour Hazer
  • For an existing follow spot, include the model, lamp information and required accessories

Identifying a traditional profile spotlight

Profile reference information separates manufacturer, lantern model, beam angle, gobo size and holder, lamp, weight and colour-frame size. A family name alone is not enough to identify every accessory. For example, the Strand Prelude 16/30 and Prelude 28/40 have separate entries, as do fixed-angle and zoom versions of other profile families.

  • Read the complete manufacturer and model marking, including numbers and suffixes
  • Record a fixed beam angle or a zoom range exactly as shown
  • Keep the gobo size and gobo-holder reference separate
  • Check the lamp code and colour-frame dimensions for that specific model
  • Traditional examples include Strand Prelude and Quartet profiles, CCT Sil and ETC Source Four

Fresnel and PC lanterns: keep the model distinction

Traditional equipment references list Fresnels and PC (pebble-convex) lanterns separately. Names such as Prelude, Cantata, Minuette and Arena occur in more than one family. Keep the F or PC designation when asking about a lamp, frame or replacement: the shared family name does not identify the complete fixture.

  • Strand examples: Prelude F and Prelude PC; Cantata F and Cantata PC
  • CCT examples: Minuette Fresnel and Minuette PC
  • Selecon examples: Acclaim and Arena families
  • Check the actual lantern label and manufacturer instructions before ordering a replacement part

PARs, floods and groundrows

The PAR family includes different sizes and lamp variants. Traditional references distinguish PAR 64, PAR 56 and PAR 36 equipment, as well as ETC Source Four PARs. Flood and groundrow references identify single and multi-cell fixtures separately, including Strand Coda, Nocturne and Iris models. Do not assume a familiar appearance means the lamp or colour frame is the same.

  • For a PAR, record the fixture size, manufacturer and lamp markings
  • For a flood or groundrow, include the full model and number of cells
  • Measure or confirm the colour-frame dimensions before cutting gel
  • Have replacement lamp specifications checked against the exact fixture; do not choose on wattage alone

What to send when you need help

For a hire, tell us what the equipment needs to do and whether you need setup or operation. For an existing lantern, a clear photograph of the fixture and its label is more useful than a partial model name. Older references can help identify a family, but are not a substitute for the manufacturer's instructions or confirmation of current parts availability.

  • Manufacturer and complete model name
  • Lamp code, wattage, voltage and base where a replacement lamp is required
  • Gobo, holder or colour-frame details where relevant
  • Venue, dates, quantities and the equipment it will be used with
  • Whether you need equipment only, delivery, setup or technical operation

Older equipment specification sheets

Manufacturer documents for identifying these particular models. These sheets do not indicate current hire availability and do not replace the complete operating and safety instructions for your equipment.
